Ilm Summit 09

As you all know, applications are now LIVE.

Not that you guys need any encouragement, but I thought I’d share some tantalizing subjects regarding this year’s IlmSummit.

Sh. Waleed Basyouni, Sh. Yaser Birjas and myself will all be there for the entire two weeks. This year, we’ll be doing the brunt of the teaching and thus have more time to go into detail and cover a topic thoroughly. Each one of us will have one ‘main subject’ and two ’secondary subjects’, along with other miscellaneous lectures.

For now (and this is subject to change), we are doing:

Sh. Waleed Basyouni:
- Rules of Understanding Allah’s Names and Attributes
- The Dhikr of Allah Between Theory and Practice
- Torch Bearers Version II (exclusive for IlmSummit)

Sh. Yaser Birjas
- Fiqh of Fasting and Ramadan
- The Principles of Fiqh (al-Qawaid al-Fiqyhiyya)
- Ibn al-Qayyim’s Techniques of Attaining True Spirituality

Sh. Yasir Qadhi
- The Reality of Faith (Iman) and Controversies Surrounding it
- Heresiology (precise group to be announced at IlmSummit)
- Preserveing Orthodox Islam in the Modern World: Problems and Solutions

Ustadh Nouman Ali Khan
- Quranic Eloquence

In addition:
- every day will start with Quranic tajwid and tilawah; students will be required to attend and will be divided into appropriate groups, according to their level.
- guest speakers
- WildCard session every night
- group tahajjud on specific nights
- and more!!!

Also, note the following:

- Dates of IlmSummit this year are 24th of July to 9th of August. Participants are expected to arrive by Friday afternoon, on the 24th. Introductory session will be at 7:30 PM that Friday. They are expected to depart Sunday morning, 9th of August.

- Location city is Houston, TX. Precise hotel will be finalized soon and announced on the forums.

- We are anticipating a much higher demand this year. Hence, NO applications for ‘one-week only’ students will be accepted. We will only entertain applications for those who can come for the entire two weeks.

- We will be accepting 150 students, same as last year. We expect this number to be split between brothers and sisters.

- Students from last year’s IlmSummit are encouraged to apply. However, outstanding AlMaghrib students will be given ultimate priority (those who have taken 10 + classes).

- Due to the fact that we must make the down-payment to the hotel, please note that all accepted students must mail a non-refundable $500.00 check to AlMaghrib within two weeks of receiving their acceptance e-mail.

The website for the application is www.almaghrib.org/summit. APPLICATION DEADLINE IS APRIL 30TH 2009. Once you have submitted your application, you will receive an e-mail with more information and important dates.

I encourage you to apply immediately. You will have to submit all of your classes that you have taken with AlMaghrib, along with the exam grades, and any community work that you have done (unfortunately, this also applies to last year’s IlmSummit attendees).

The three main criterion for acceptance, in no specific order, are:
1) AlMaghrib classes and exam scores
2) Quantity of Quran memorized
3) Community involvement.

Additionally, geographic location will play a factor, but after the above three criterion.”
